What to Let Them Watch This Fall

Posted on: September 23rd, 2011 by admin No Comments

Every fall since my children have been alive, I have asked myself the same question, “Would I let my kids watch this show?” It’s a strange question because the answer is rarely a simple yes or no. The answers are usually a mix of the following… (more…)

Even More Family Spinoffs

Posted on: September 15th, 2011 by admin No Comments

When one of our favorite TV shows goes off the air, it can be devastating. However, many times, the cancellation is the birth of a spinoff. Sometimes it can be a great thing (Benson) and sometimes not so much (Hangin’ In). Here are some spinoff ideas that I would love to see. (more…)

The Lying Game

Posted on: September 1st, 2011 by admin No Comments

Well, ABC Family has done it again. Done what, you ask? Created another crappy TV show. This one is called The Lying Game.

The premise is a twist on The Prince and the Pauper. Twins are separated at birth. One is adopted by a rich family and the other grows up in a foster home. They find each other and the prefab poop hits the poorly constructed fan. (more…)

Back to School

In only a few short weeks I will experience the joy that only comes around once a year. It’s better than Christmas and more relaxing than Labor Day. The day I speak of is the day my kids go back to school. (more…)

Still More Family Friendly Spinoffs I’d Like to See

When one of our favorite TV shows goes off the air, it can be devastating. However, many times, the cancellation is the birth of a spinoff. Sometimes it can be a great thing (Mork & Mindy) and sometimes not so much (Joanie Loves Chachi). Here are some spinoff ideas that I would love to see. (more…)

Adventure Time

A couple weeks ago ABC premiered a new reality/competition show called Expedition Impossible. Basically, it’s ABC’s version of The Amazing Race with a few changes. The biggest change is the grand prize. The first place team of three people wins $150,000 and they each get a new car. Read that again. To put things in perspective, the winners on The Amazing Race win $500,000 each and all contestants are eligible to win a variety of prizes for coming in first in each leg. (more…)

The Sun Always Shines on TV

Posted on: July 7th, 2011 by admin No Comments

When television first started showing original programming, all families were pretty much the same. The Cleavers, the Stones, the Nelsons and the Andersons were all happy, well-adjusted folks who supported each other, had great jobs and were well-educated. (more…)

The 9 Lives of Chloe King

Last week I wrote a review of the new ABC Family show, Switched at Birth. If you read it, which I find hard to believe, you’ll remember that I was less than impressed with the show. I was hard pressed to think of a show in resent memory that was more heavy-handed while having less acting talent contained therein. Enter Chloe King. (more…)

The 10 Stupidest TV Dads

Posted on: June 19th, 2011 by admin No Comments

It seems to me that, over the years, fathers on television are portrayed in one of two ways. They are either the thoughtful and caring father we all wished he had or they are a total moron. Here is a list of some of the most spectacularly stupid dads. (more…)

Switched at Birth

I’m not a huge fan of the original programming on ABC Family, in fact I was upset when Fox sold them because they had just started showing remastered episodes of Hawaii 5-0. But since I’m not really the audience for most of their shows, this is not a big deal. However, since I started writing for this blog, I have been seeking out more family-friendly television to watch and comment on. My search bore fruit this month when ABC Family premiered Switched at Birth. (more…)
